Yahaira has this bear that my mom sent her. It's a travel bear. So, we decided (a little late in the drive....missed the FL welcome sign) that we would take pictures of her and Izzy the bear whenever we went to new places. I should have taken one at our host's apartment Sunday night, but I forgot to take any pictures...and I usually try to get one of the people we have hosted at our place...yet I forget to get one when it's our first couch surfing experience as surfers.
We started our Sunday morning out in Perdido Key, FL
Then we drove through part of Alabama
Part of Mississippi
The entire east to west stretch of Louisiana
After being in the car for many a hours, we stopped at the huge Bass Pro Shop to let them run (which they didn't end up doing, go figure).
Then we arrived in Texas.
Everything is better in Texas, at least their welcome sign is:
Everything is BIGGER in Texas
We drove to Port Arthur, TX and stayed the night at a complete stranger's house. He was even so kind as to sleep on the couch so Daniel and Yaharia could sleep on his bed and me and the 2 other kids on a mat in the other room. We got there kind of late since we had made a long stop at Bass Pro. We took Priyesh out for dinner, but since it was late, they kept coming back and saying they we out of the kid's pizza, out of this side, out of the soup. Man, we kept striking out. Oh well, we did eat and little Daniel got to run around the restaurant.
In the morning we drove south to Port Bolivar. There we hopped on the free ferry to Galveston, Island, TX.
We opted to spend the night in Galveston since we are in the Houston Area a night before my sister and nephew fly in, so I found us a deal on a hotel (a suite for under $100, apool, breakfast and clean too!).
The view right when we walk out the hotel
Running around Pier 21 downtown
Did you know that the Germans were this close to our land during WWII? I had no idea that German U boats were literally right on our mainland shores, and that they sunk so many ships so close to home!
