A week or so ago, Daniel and I decided to not eat out for the next 30 days. We were feeling sick. and gross. and blah. from eating out so much. We knew that most restaurant food is unhealthy. We knew that it costs a lot of money to eat out (money that we could spend somewhere else or save for that matter). We knew it was usually out of pure laziness that we ate out. We wanted a change.
I must confess I did end up going to Panera with the girls once last week because we were out running errands and they were hungry. Even then, I felt like it was way over priced. But hey, that's the price of convenience I guess.
Last night I was totaling our spending costs by category (gas, groceries, bills, blow money, eating out, unexpected bills, etc). We spent WAY. TOO. MUCH. money in the blow category. We also spent $256.23 on eating out this month! That's close to 2 weeks worth of groceries we could have bought! Ridiculous.
Well, not only are we saying NO to restaurants. We are saying NO to pretty much everything in the center aisles of the grocery store. You now them. The ones with canned goods. boxed goods. prepackaged goods. long shelf life minimal nutrients goods. We are sticking to fresh produce, fresh meat, fresh eggs and a few dairy items. My shopping list has me pick up 2 items from the middle of the store: salsa and corn tortillas. This will be an adventure to see if my budgeted costs are on target...
stay tuned to find out...
