Saranac Lake, NY

Today we drove out to Saranac Lake, NY. It was quite the adventure. We went out there because neither my brother nor I had seen the Adirondack Mountains. I found a nice, short, easy trail to take to get a great view of the area (Mount Baker). So the 3 kids, my brother and I piled into the car and headed east. After an hour or so in the car Yahaira really did not look well. She looked like she was going to puke, and then she started to make the gaging sound. So, we pulled into a parking area and let her and Jilly hangout in the fresh air for a little bit (see below).

Then we got back in the car and headed off again. Yahaira still didn't seem too well, but after stopping for gas and chips she fell asleep. Jillian started to whine and cry when we got close to Saranac Lake. Then John started up too. Tag team! Well, everyone was finally asleep about 10 minutes before we got to Saranac Lake. Typical, right?! Oh well. Yahaira had been asking to go to the park the entire trip, so we found a playground and woke them up to go play at it. They really seemed to enjoy it!

Until....

Jillian took a nose dive down the slide! She scraped her nose up rather nicely. Poor girl was devastated, but she eventually got over it. We left the park to go find the trail up Mount Baker. After hitting several detours, we finally found a way to get to the trail head. We got there, got out of the car, and Yahaira puked on the ground and her jacket. YES! Vince was laughing and saying that God made girls for a reason (to clean the puke). I should have made him deal with his niece, but I'm so nice. Ha! It wasn't bad, I just took off her jacket and put a different one on her (I brought 2 for each kid because I was PREPARED!) John had been screaming for awhile now, and I was trying to feed him sweet potatoes while I held him. We got to the trail, just to find out that it was covered in sheer ice. So much for the nice hike and great views! We piled back into the car and headed for downtown. After parking, I had John finish off the sweet taters (he was still screaming) and then we looked for a place with pasta for the girls to eat at. John continued to scream, and kept screaming for quite some time. He was so obnoxious that some people in the restaurant left the area we were in. SORRY! After eating WAY TOO MUCH John finally calmed himself down a bit. He was still fussy, but nowhere near as loud. We ate and then Yahaira peed her pants (and the chair). Her spare clothes were in the car, so she had to sit in her wet pants for awhile. Oops. She was so funny walking to the car...her legs were straddled as she walked slowly. Funny girl! We headed home with a calm and uneventful drive, THANK YOU JESUS! I was really not looking forward to the drive if it was going to be one playing the chorus of screaming the whole way home. Well, we must try this trip again when it is WARM and there is NO SNOW! We'll keep you posted:)
